There are so many brilliant castles in Germany. Here's something that many may not know: there are a few that you can actually stay in! That's right. Live like royalty for a night or two, or more.

Rent a room, or even rent the whole property in some. Many are used as beautiful and picturesque venues for weddings and large parties. Wow! It's one thing to tour a castle, which is an amazing experience in itself, but staying in one is a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Take it from someone who got the crazy opportunity to stay in one. Walking around the old cobblestone walls and seeing authentic parts of the castle that were hundreds of years old, including the dungeon, was so surreal.

My family and I got to stay in an 11th-century castle in Wales for my Uncle and co-writer, Eran, and his wife's (my lovely Aunt's) wedding. It was an experience that has been engraved in my mind ever since. Not to mention I had on a fancy dress for the wedding, so it felt even more the part!

The Elsava Valley's hidden gem hotel.

About an hour's drive from Frankfurt, in the Elsava Valley, is the Rapunzel castle, Mespelbrunn. This castle features a lovely fairy tale tower that is actually a guest room. One can also relax in the castle's Millhouse and wake up with a stunning view of the tower and pond.

Now that's a castle if I've ever seen one. What an honor it would be to stay in a castle complex!

Stay in the best-preserved Romanesque style castle situated in the Thuringian forest, north of the lovely Bavarian Alps. Doesn't it light up so dramatic and cool- like?

Built in the 11th century, Waldeck is one of the top castle hotels in Germany. Its location in Hesse, with a view overlooking the Edersee Lake, is second to none. Used as a former residence for the Waldeck Counts, then military barracks, the fortified castle was converted into a hotel in the early 19th century. If you want some creepy history, check out the hotel museum, open from 10.00 a.m. to 18.00 p.m.

The Edersee is a massive reservoir held by a 48 m-high (157 ft) dam. This dam is one of the largest in Germany and helps send the right amount of water down local waterways and keeps the townsfolk of the Edersee reservoir dry!

Waldeck overlooks this incredible sight with its medieval architecture and breathtaking views from the hotel rooms and restaurants. Take a day trip and a guided tour of the dam's history, and shop around the small town before catching a shuttle and retiring to the towering castle above for the night.
