Plan Your Nature-Focused Trip

Nature with a German Accent

Germany isn’t just cities and castles. Its natural landscapes are just as rewarding, if you know where to look. From the dark woods of the Black Forest to the alpine lakes near the Austrian border, there’s a lot of space to breathe, hike, and wander.

Even the north coast has its own kind of drama, with dunes, windswept trails, and mudflats that stretch for miles. Germany's natural charm is not to be understated. It's grand and magnificent, whatever the season.

My first one-with-nature moment in Germany was driving through the Black Forest. But going up Zugspitze? I was hooked.

I grew up around farmland and hills in rural Ontario, Canada, and fell for mountains years ago in Whistler. So standing on Germany’s highest peak hit all the right notes.

I’m not one to rough it for long, but give me a mountain, a camera, and a bit of quiet, and I’m set. If you’re the same, start with Zugspitze. Then wind your way through the Black Forest. The views (and the stillness) are worth the trip.

Cheers!
