Hallo! I’m Gerhild Fulson, though most people know me simply as Oma Gerhild.

I started Quick German Recipes over fifteen years ago with a simple goal in mind: to make traditional German food easy again. Not complicated, not intimidating. Just the kind of cooking that feels like home. For those of us living outside Germany, it became a way to bring those familiar flavors back to the table using ingredients we could actually find locally.

What I didn’t expect was how much it would reconnect people to their heritage. My readers began sharing how these recipes reminded them of their parents, grandparents, and family gatherings. Through food, they found a way to keep those traditions alive. And in many homes, pass them on.

Still, for many of us, that longing for the “old country” never really fades. I left Germany as a young child, but it’s always been a part of me. Over the years, my husband and I have returned often. Exploring by car, bus, and train, and spending longer stretches there while doing ministry work. Each visit deepened my connection to the place I first called home.

Now, it’s time for the next chapter. Together with my son, Eran, and granddaughter, Lydia, I’m expanding the Just Like Oma story beyond the kitchen. Through Tour My Germany, I’d love to take you along and see the country, meet the people, experience the culture, and rediscover the history that shaped it all.

Because food tells one story of Germany.
Seeing it tells the rest.

Across media platforms, the Just Like Oma family of websites are celebrated for making German cooking, travel, and heritage fun & simple to understand, and easily accessible for everyone!
